Adding to the Conversation
Everyone is talking about one thing- Feedback. The Conversation circles around the benefits of feedback that are allowed to students because of the course wiki and the wordpress blogs.
Steph’s post talked more specifically about the tasks happening in the specific classes but also mentioned all each class comments on another class and vice versa. The Wiki is letting outside sources come and analyze work like a real world situation. These new ideas are helping students give better feedback to others and also get more ideas for their writing in the future. Most students conclude that getting more feedback and more detailed feedback was helping them write better.
The Wiki and the blogs create a dialogue between writers. While everyone is anonymous on the blogs, outsiders can still read and respond to what is being said. Anonymity lets students truly speak there mind and say what is important without feeling embarrassed. The Wiki is more interactive. It is easier for people to respond and read a response. People can edit pages directly to leave a comment about a specific topic. New ideas are created when the conversation continues leading to more critical thinking. The course wiki is able to help students by allowing this type of dialogue. It lets each student get the information they need to make a better paper in the future.
I do believe the Wiki and the blogs have brought an important aspect into writing. More feedback and information is coming into the hands of the writer. Responses to writing are the only way some one will know how to write better the next time. These make the wiki and blog beneficial when it comes to writing.
